Confirm the complete address.Use the street address and apartment or unit number. For new construction, ask the provider to confirm the exact address record.Ask what connection reaches the home.Compare fiber to the home, cable or fixed wireless. A provider’s regional presence does not confirm service at this property.List how your household gets online.Note people, devices, video calls, streaming, gaming and any important upload needs.Review your current agreement.Check the end date, cancellation terms and whether a transfer is possible.

ONCE YOU KNOW YOUR DATES

Before move-in

Compare the complete cost.Ask about the monthly price, promotional end date, equipment, installation, taxes, data limits and cancellation terms.Confirm installation or self-installation.Ask whether the home is ready for service, who needs to be present and what access the technician needs.Check property permissions.Ask the landlord or property manager about access and any permission needed for equipment or wiring.Keep the appointment details.Save the provider’s confirmation, time window, order reference and contact route. A requested date is not a confirmed appointment.

WHEN YOU GET THE KEYS

During move-in

Plan your router location.Discuss a central, open position and any rooms that may need additional Wi-Fi coverage.Test a real work or school task.Check the rooms and devices you actually use. If performance is poor, compare a wired test with Wi-Fi before changing your plan.Reconnect household equipment.Review cameras, TVs and other connected devices. Follow each device’s setup instructions.Confirm service before ending the old connection.Where timing allows, verify the new service works before completing cancellation of the old one. Review any overlap charges.

FINISH THE HANDOVER

After activation

Confirm the old service’s end date.Check the final bill, cancellation confirmation and any remaining charges directly with that provider.Return equipment correctly.Follow the provider’s return instructions and deadline. Keep a receipt and any shipment tracking.Review the first bill.Compare charges with the terms you accepted and ask the provider about any discrepancy.Save support details.Keep your provider’s support route and service information somewhere you can find during an outage.
