BROADBAND FACTS / CHECKED OCTOBER 13, 2026

Read the label.
Check the whole offer.

Use the eligible plan’s Broadband Facts label and written quote to check the starting and later price, required fees, typical downloads, uploads, latency and data. On a sales call, ask for the same information and a way to read the label. Keep unknown charges as questions before choosing.

Start with the FCC’s label guidance [2]. This is a consumer worksheet, not a provider compliance test.

What have you recorded?

Compare two written quotes over the same period

A telephone checklist you can read aloud

  1. “What is the total monthly price, including required provider fees? What is introductory, and when does it end?”
  2. “Which equipment and one-time charges apply? What government or third-party fees could change the bill at my address?”
  3. “What are this plan’s typical download, upload and latency values on its label?”
  4. “What are the data, contract and cancellation terms, and how can I read or receive the current label?”

Keep the plan identifier, answer date and final written terms privately. A helpful conversation does not replace the provider’s eligibility check and final offer. Discuss the offer · (336) 420-9379

What the 2026 FCC order adopted—and when it applies

FCC 26-48, adopted July 22, 2026 [1], adopts a conversational telephone summary, updated fee presentation, removal of the expired ACP reference, and removal of separate label spreadsheets and the discontinued-label archive requirement. It preserves accessible consumer label information. The order does not prove that comparison sites have lost all access to current plan data.

Effective-date distinction: the August 13 publication sets September 14, 2026 for parts of the rule, but delays instruction 3—the changes to § 8.1(a)—until a later Federal Register notice. That instruction contains the substantive label and telephone changes. This October 13 source review did not identify a later notice activating it. Do not treat July adoption as proof that those changes are already mandatory. Check the current FCC implementation notice and provider label.

The adopted fee option allows location-varying passthrough amounts to be presented as maxima in two groups: government-imposed costs and non-governmental third-party infrastructure costs. It also brings provider-set monthly charges into the displayed monthly price. A maximum remains different from your actual bill; ask for the address-qualified amounts and avoid double-counting fees included in the price.

Consumer questions remain useful across label versions

The earlier FCC advisory [3] explains the established point-of-sale label obligations. Use it with the current implementation notices rather than assuming one archived template settles every requirement.

Broadband Facts questions

Availability, prices and provider terms need confirmation. Here’s where to start.

Contact us
Does this checker approve a provider’s FCC compliance?

No. It tracks the information you have recorded for an eligible offer. Tarheel Connect does not inspect the provider’s compliance or certify a label. Missing information remains a question for the provider.

Did all FCC 26-48 label changes take effect in July 2026?

No. The August 13 Federal Register publication sets September 14, 2026 for parts of the rule but delays instruction 3, revising § 8.1(a), until a later effective-date notice. Adoption and implementation are different milestones.

Should I treat an “up to” fee as the amount I will pay?

No. A maximum or estimate is not an exact address-qualified bill. Ask which government and third-party fees apply to your address and how they affect the total. Do not enter an unknown charge as zero in a cost comparison.

Are my checklist selections sent anywhere?

No. This worksheet runs on this page without submitting or storing your selections. It resets on reload. Use your browser’s print function to keep a copy privately.
